Corporate Responsibility Report 2023
Autoneum reports about key developments, activities and results in the area of Corporate Responsibility in a systematic and detailed manner. The Company thereby confirms its commitment to transparency toward its stakeholders and the public at large. Autoneum adheres to the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the leading global standard in sustainability reporting.
Science Based Targets initiative
Recognizing the serious environmental challenges facing the world today and the resulting need for rapid and significant reductions in global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Autoneum has committed to reducing its absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 20% by 2027 from a 2019 base year. The Company also commits to reduce its absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 20% within the same timeframe. Autoneum’s GHG emission reduction targets were validated by the SBTi on January 12, 2023, and are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C. The Company is thus taking another important step toward a sustainable future of mobility.
In pursuit of a climate-neutral production vehicle
Autoneum will support Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar together with other industry-leading collaboration partners from different fields in making the vision of a truly climate-neutral production car a reality. The Polestar 0 project aims to eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions from every aspect and thus across the entire value chain of vehicle production by 2030: from the extraction of raw materials to their processing and conversion to the manufacturing and assembly of components to delivery and, ultimately, end of life.
As collaboration partner in the project, Autoneum will focus on further developing its fiber-based, lightweight monomaterial technologies that are already distinguished by their high content of recycled raw materials, a low carbon footprint and an excellent recyclability at the end of product life. The Company will place particular focus on further optimizing the environmental performance of its polyester-based Pure technology Ultra-Silent across the product life cycle.
Autoneum’s noise-reducing and sustainable technology bestseller Ultra-Silent for underbody systems and frunks – front trunks – is made of 100% PET, of which up to 70% are recycled fibers, it is 50% lighter than plastic alternatives and can be extended to further acoustic applications and trim parts for both the interior and the exterior of the vehicle.
Stakeholder Engagement
In order to gain a holistic understanding of Autoneum’s key Corporate Responsibility risks and opportunities, we engage in regular dialogue with the key stakeholder groups in our stakeholder ecosystem. The various forms of engagement are described in the following overview.
